Our Story
White Horse Pottery was founded in 2018 by Hannah Whitney, and is located on acreage in Medowie, NSW. I offer regular classes, workshops, and studio space hire, in order to open up the exciting world of pottery to everyone. I aim to accommodate everyone, no matter your age or previous artistic experience
The purpose built, picturesque studio, located on acreage in Medowie is a serene environment fostering creativity and relaxation. Class sizes are kept small to ensure each student receives individual tuition from the instructor. We offer term-long courses, once-off workshops, and after-school classes for kids, and school holiday workshops. You will find more information on each by clicking the links below.
About The Artist
I am a Tasmanian-born ceramic artist, university graduate marine biologist, and long-time horse enthusiast. I began working with clay in my early teenage years when I came across my father’s old pottery wheel, hiding almost forgotten in the back of a shed. I am self-taught, with my early pottery lessons consisting of old video cassettes (VHS) borrowed from the City Library.
In more recent years, I have had the opportunity to refine my skills and learn a wider range of techniques in the presence of other skilled potters and master potters.
I settled in Port Stephens in 2012 and set up my pottery studio in Medowie in December of 2018. My philosophy is ‘if it can be imagined, it can be created’.
About The Studio
What you can do at the studio
Hand-building
If this is your first venture into the world of clay, hand-building is a great place to start! Hand building classes are also a great way to mingle and meet other local artists in the Port Stephens community
Wheel throwing
Messy, muddy, and fun, wheel throwing is very hands on, and can be a calming and relaxing experience. It takes years to fully master, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give Wheel Throwing a try.
